Dreo space heaters recalled for fire hazard: how to check your model and what to do
CPSC and DREO recalled about 338,800 DR-HSH015 space heaters that can overheat and ignite. How to read the label underneath and claim a free replacement.

- On October 29, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of about 338,800 DREO space heaters, model DR-HSH015, because they "can overheat and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards." About 36,300 more were sold in Canada.
- Only model DR-HSH015 units made from April 2025 through January 2026 are included. The model number and the manufacture date (YYYY/MM) are on a label on the underside.
- If yours matches, stop using it now and contact DREO for a free replacement. DREO will ask you to unplug it, cut the cord and send a photo.
- If yours doesn't match, there is nothing to return and no reason to buy a new heater because of this recall.
What was recalled
CPSC's notice, dated October 29, 2026, is titled "DREO Recalls DR-HSH015 Space Heaters Due to Fire and Burn Hazards." It covers about 338,800 heaters in the US, plus about 36,300 sold in Canada. The importer is Hesung Innovation Corp, doing business as DREO, and the heaters were made in Vietnam.
The hazard, in CPSC's words: "The recalled space heaters can overheat and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards." DREO has received 17 reports of heaters igniting. Three caused property damage and one caused a burn injury to the hand.
The heaters were sold at Costco stores nationwide and online at Dreo.com, BestBuy.com, Kohls.com, Lowes.com, QVC.com, HomeDepot.com, B2BRenew.com and Costco.com, from September 2025 through October 2026, for $70 to $110.
How to check your heater, step by step
Do this with the heater switched off, unplugged and cool. It takes a minute.
- Look at the front. The recalled heaters have "DREO" on the front. If yours is another brand, it isn't part of this recall.
- Check the description. CPSC describes a black ceramic electric heater, about 11.5 inches wide and 13 inches tall, that comes with a remote control.
- Turn it over and find the label on the underside. It shows the model number and the manufacture date in YYYY/MM format.
- Read the model number. Only DR-HSH015 is recalled.
- Read the date. Only units made from April 2025 through January 2026 are included, so 2025/04 to 2026/01 on the label.
- If the model and date both match, stop using it and go to the next section.
- If the label is missing or you can't read it, stop using the heater and contact DREO to check.
If your heater is recalled: the free replacement
CPSC says consumers "should stop using the recalled space heaters immediately and contact DREO for a free replacement space heater." The remedy is a replacement, not a refund or a repair.
DREO will ask you to unplug the heater, destroy it by cutting the electrical cord and follow its instructions to send a photo of the destroyed heater. Don't use the heater in the meantime.
You can reach DREO toll-free at 833-820-0887, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, by email at spaceheater@realtimeresults.net, or online at www.dreo.com (click "PRODUCT RECALLS" at the top of the page) or www.recallrtr.com/spaceheater.
What about other DREO heaters?
The notice names one model, DR-HSH015, and one manufacturing window. It doesn't cover other DREO models or DR-HSH015 units made outside April 2025 through January 2026.
We've taken the DREO ceramic heater off our space heater comparison while we confirm its model. Amazon isn't among the sellers CPSC names, but Amazon's listing for it doesn't show a model number we could check. The comparison still lists a DREO oil-filled radiator, which isn't a ceramic heater. Whichever DREO heater you own, and wherever you bought it, the label underneath is what counts.
CPSC also says to check whether any product has been recalled before you use it, any time of year. You can search its list at cpsc.gov/recalls.
Before you plug in any space heater this season
CPSC estimates that portable heaters, including electric space heaters, are involved in an average of 1,600 fires a year, with an average of 70 deaths and 150 injuries a year from 2020 to 2022. Whatever heater you own, CPSC's basic rules apply:
- Plug it directly into a wall outlet, never an extension cord or power strip, to prevent overloading and causing a fire.
- Keep it at least three feet from drapes, furniture, bedding and anything else that can burn.
- Don't leave it running unattended or while you sleep.
- While it runs, check whether the plug, cord, wall outlet or faceplate is hot. If it is, turn it off and have a qualified electrician inspect it.
What not to do
Don't keep using a recalled heater "just until the replacement comes." CPSC says to stop using it immediately. If that leaves a room cold, layer clothes and blankets, and see our guide to staying warm without power for safe ways to keep warm.
Never heat your home with a gas stove or oven. Ready.gov says it increases your risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. And you don't need to replace a heater that isn't on the recall. If you do need one, our space heater safety guide says what to look for: a heater evaluated by a nationally recognized lab, with a thermostat, that switches off if it falls over.
We will update this story if CPSC or DREO adds models, changes the manufacturing dates or changes the remedy, or if CPSC reports more incidents. The recall notice on cpsc.gov is the final word.
Common questions
Which Dreo space heaters are recalled?
Model DR-HSH015 only: black ceramic electric heaters, about 11.5 inches wide and 13 inches tall, with a remote, made from April 2025 through January 2026. About 338,800 were sold in the US and about 36,300 in Canada.
Where do I find the model number on my Dreo heater?
On a label on the heater's underside. The same label shows the manufacture date in YYYY/MM format. Unplug the heater and let it cool before you turn it over.
Do I get a refund for a recalled Dreo heater?
The remedy is a free replacement heater, not a refund. Contact DREO at 833-820-0887, spaceheater@realtimeresults.net, dreo.com (Product Recalls) or recallrtr.com/spaceheater. DREO will ask you to cut the cord and send a photo.
Is my Dreo heater from Amazon recalled?
Amazon isn't on CPSC's list of sellers, which names Costco and several store websites. But check the label underneath anyway: if it says DR-HSH015 with a date from 2025/04 to 2026/01, it matches the recall's description. Stop using it and contact DREO.
What's the hazard?
CPSC says the heaters can overheat and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards. DREO has had 17 reports of heaters igniting, three with property damage and one burn injury to the hand.
