Best off-grid solar kits: panels, inverter and battery by size (2026)
An off-grid solar kit puts solar panels, an inverter and a lithium battery bank in one order, so a cabin, a homestead or a home's essentials can run without the grid. Energy.gov is blunt about the key point: residential solar panels alone are not enough to make your home resilient. They need a properly configured inverter and a storage system, which is what these kits add. This page compares five SunGoldPower kits from 3 to 10 kilowatts. We haven't installed them ourselves; every spec is from SunGoldPower's own listing.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6,500 W | 120/240V | 10.24 kWh (2 x 51.2V 100Ah LiFePO4) | 2,220 W (6 x 370 W) | $5,226 at SunGoldPower Checked Oct 30In stockCheck price → | |
Our verdictOur verdictResearched The step up that matters for a house: 120/240-volt split output, so a well pump or other 240-volt load can run, plus 10.24 kWh of lithium battery and six 370-watt panels. The battery is double the smaller kits' and the panels refill it faster. Best for The first kit with 240-volt output Good

| 8,000 W | 120/240V | 10.24 kWh (maker: 4 x 200Ah LiFePO4) | 5,400 W (12 x 450 W) | $6,979 at SunGoldPower Checked Oct 30In stockCheck price → | |
Our verdictOur verdictResearched An 8,000-watt split-phase inverter with 5,400 watts of panels, more than double the 6,500-watt kit's, so the 10.24 kWh battery refills well on a good day. SunGoldPower says up to six inverters can run in parallel, so a system can grow. Twelve large panels need real roof or ground space. Best for Big solar for a cabin or homestead Good

Our verdictOur verdictResearched The largest kit here: a 10,000-watt split-phase inverter, 20.48 kWh of lithium battery in an enclosed cabinet and twelve 450-watt bifacial panels. That's twice the storage of the 8,000-watt kit, which matters for getting through the night and cloudy days. At this size, plan the install with a licensed electrician from the start. Best for The most battery: 20.48 kWh in a cabinet Good

Our verdictOur verdictResearched The smallest kit here: a 3,000-watt, 120-volt inverter, 5.12 kWh of lithium battery and four 200-watt panels. That's enough for lights, a fridge, a router and phones at a cabin or through an outage, but not for central air or an electric range. It has 120-volt output only, so 240-volt appliances like a well pump or dryer are out. Best for A small cabin or shed, or a few essentials at home Good

| 5,000 W | 120V | 5.12 kWh (1 x 51.2V 100Ah LiFePO4) | 1,200 W (6 x 200 W) | $3,145 at SunGoldPower Checked Oct 30In stockCheck price → | |
Our verdictOur verdictResearched A 5,000-watt, 48-volt inverter with Wi-Fi monitoring, one 5.12 kWh lithium battery and six 200-watt panels. The bigger inverter handles more at once than the 3,000-watt kit, and a 48-volt system is easier to grow with more batteries later. Output is 120 volts only. Best for More inverter power on a 48-volt system Good

Before you buy
Size the battery to your daily use, not the inverter.
EIA says the average US home bought about 899 kWh of electricity a month in 2022, roughly 30 kWh a day, so even the 20.48 kWh kit here won't run a typical whole house all day and night on its own. Off-grid, you size the system to the loads you choose to run.
Check 120 or 240 volts.
The 3,000 and 5,000-watt kits put out 120 volts only. A well pump, electric dryer or range needs 240 volts, which the 6,500, 8,000 and 10,000-watt kits provide.
Panel watts decide how fast the battery refills.
The 8,000 and 10,000-watt kits carry 5,400 watts of panels; the smallest has 800. More panels need more roof or ground space.
A home's grid-tied solar won't keep your lights on in an outage by itself
Energy.gov says those systems are designed to switch off when grid power cuts out, for safety reasons. Backup needs batteries and the right inverter setup, installed by a professional.
We verify every product's specifications against at least two independent sources, re-check its US price and stock on a schedule where we can track it automatically, and cross-check safety-relevant claims against official guidance. Every review is labeled Researched or Used and reviewed by us: where we've bought a product, or been sent it free, and used it ourselves, its review says which; where we haven't, our verdict is a considered spec-and-evidence comparison, not a hands-on test — and commissions never change a ranking either way. Common questions
Do solar panels work during a power outage?
Not on their own. Energy.gov says grid-tied systems are designed to switch off if grid power cuts out, for safety reasons, and that panels need a properly configured inverter and a storage system to produce power on their own. An off-grid kit includes both.
What size off-grid solar kit do I need?
Start from the loads you must run and how many hours a day. The battery (kWh) sets how long you can run them, the inverter (watts) sets how much at once, and the panels set how fast the battery refills. EIA puts the average US home at about 899 kWh a month, roughly 30 a day, which is more than any kit here stores.
Can I install an off-grid solar kit myself?
Mounting and wiring a system this size, and especially connecting it to a home's electrical panel, is work for a licensed electrician, and many towns require permits and inspections. Check with your local building department before you buy.
Off-grid solar kit or a portable power station?
A power station with a folding solar panel plugs in and covers essentials like a fridge, lights and phones through an outage, with no installation. A kit like these is a permanent system with far more storage and 240-volt output on the larger models, for a cabin, homestead or serious home backup.
Why are all the kits on this page from SunGoldPower?
SunGoldPower sells complete kits, with panels, inverter, batteries, breakers and cables, directly in the US, and lists what each kit includes. We'll add other brands' complete kits when we've checked their listings.
