About PreparedStates
PreparedStates helps American households get ready for the emergencies they are most likely to face: power outages, severe storms, hurricanes, wildfires and the days after them. Calm, sourced and independent.
What we do
We explain official guidance from FEMA, the CDC, the EPA and the National Weather Service in plain English, show live hazard data from public sources, and compare the gear worth owning, with prices checked on a schedule and an honest note on who shouldn't buy.
We don't do fear. Preparedness is ordinary household good sense, like a spare tire or a smoke alarm.
How we're funded
Some links earn us a commission when you buy, at no cost to you. Commissions never change a pick or a rating: the cheapest place to buy gets the button. Read our affiliate disclosure and how we test.
Not a government site
PreparedStates is independent and not affiliated with FEMA, Ready.gov or any government agency. In an emergency, follow the instructions of your local officials and call 911.
