Our review
ORORO's men's 4-zone heated vest warms the pockets, collar and mid-back from a lithium battery that charges over USB-C. This review covers ORORO's run times on each setting, the battery and how it charges, the care rules, and why a heated vest adds to, and never replaces, a safe heating plan in a winter outage.
What it is and who it suits
ORORO's page for the Men's 4-Zone Classic Heated Vest lists four heating zones: the left and right pockets, the collar and the mid-back. The heat comes from carbon fiber elements, switched between high, medium and low with a power button on the left chest. The shell is 100% nylon, which ORORO calls water- and wind-resistant, with a stand-up collar and zippered hand-warmer pockets. A size M weighs 14.8 ounces, and the battery weighs 6.53 ounces.
The page we read is the 10-Year Anniversary Limited Edition, style MVC-10Y. ORORO sells several heated vests, so match the style number on yours to the listing before relying on any figure here. The vest suits a household that expects to sit in a cold house during an outage and wants warmth on the body without heating a whole room. It is a layer that warms you, not a heater for the room.
Run time on each setting
ORORO states 10 hours of heating in total, split by setting: 3 hours on high, 6 hours on medium and 10 hours on low. The headline figure of up to 10 hours is therefore the low setting. If you want the vest hot through an evening, plan around the 3 hours on high, and keep the battery charged before a storm arrives.
The battery is rated 4800 mAh at 7.4V, or 35.4 Wh, and ORORO says it is powered by LG cells. ORORO says it is UL, CUL, CE, FCC and RoHS certified. A full charge takes 4 hours from any 15-watt (5V/3A) charger, which is not included. ORORO sells a backup battery separately, and a second battery is the plain answer if you want heat through a long night.
Charging when the power is out
The battery has a USB-C port for charging and a separate USB port that can charge other devices. ORORO says any charger works with the included cable, and recommends a 15-watt (5V/3A) output for faster charging, from a reputable brand with a UL, CE or FCC certification. A power bank can therefore do the job if it supplies that kind of output, so check the rating printed on yours. Our power bank comparison lists models.
Whatever you use, the vest does nothing once the battery is flat, so make recharging part of your outage routine.
Care, travel and warranty
ORORO's care instructions say machine wash cold in a mesh laundry bag, do not iron, do not dry clean, do not machine dry, and line dry, hang dry or lay flat. Its FAQ adds that you should follow the washing instructions in the manual, so read it before the first wash.
ORORO says all its heated apparel is TSA-friendly, and that because the batteries are lithium you must keep them in your carry-on luggage. The page lists a 3-year limited warranty on the heating elements and a 1-year limited warranty on the battery.
Heat safety in an outage
A heated vest does not change the rules for heating a house without power. CDC says turning on the stove for heat is not safe, and Ready.gov says never to heat your home with a gas stovetop or oven. For going outdoors, Ready.gov says to wear layers of warm clothing and to watch for signs of frostbite and hypothermia, which it describes as an unusually low body temperature.
CDC lists extra blankets, sleeping bags and warm winter coats among the heat sources to have in case the power goes out. Our staying warm without power guide covers the rest, and the heated clothing comparison sets this vest beside other options.
Who should skip it
Skip it if you need steady heat on the high setting through a long night, since ORORO rates high at 3 hours per charge. Skip it if you will not charge it ahead of time or keep a spare battery. It warms the person wearing it and nothing else, so it is no help for the house, which still needs the heating plan above.

How long does the ORORO vest battery last?
ORORO states 10 hours of heating: 3 hours on high, 6 hours on medium and 10 hours on low. These are the maker's figures for a full charge, so expect the high setting to need a recharge within an evening.
Can I charge it from a power bank?
ORORO says any charger works with the included cable and recommends 15 watts (5V/3A) for faster charging. A power bank that supplies that output should work, so check the rating printed on it. A full charge takes 4 hours from a 15-watt charger.
Can I wash the vest?
Yes. ORORO says it is machine washable on cold in a mesh laundry bag, with no ironing, dry cleaning or machine drying. Follow the manual's washing instructions, and line dry or lay it flat.
Can it replace a heater in a power outage?
No. It warms your body only. CDC says turning on the stove for heat is not safe, and Ready.gov says never to heat your home with a gas stovetop or oven. Plan on layers, blankets and a safe heat source as well.
