12,720 kcal across 60 servings, about 212 kcal each, so it's 6 adult-days rather than a 60-meal month. ReadyWise says it needs about 60 cups of water. At its store price it is one of the dearer days of food here; Amazon's price is often different, so check both.

Our review

ReadyWise's 60-serving entrée bucket holds ten pouches of dinners, from lasagna to teriyaki rice, with 12,720 calories in all and a shelf life of up to 25 years. ReadyWise calls it seven days of food at 1,800 calories a day. This review covers the menu, the water and cooking it really needs, and how it compares.

What is in the bucket

ReadyWise lists ten pouches of six servings each: Cheesy Lasagna, Creamy Pasta, Pasta Alfredo, Chicken Flavored Noodle Soup, Savory Stroganoff, Hearty Tortilla Soup, Southwest Beans and Rice, Cheesy Macaroni, and two pouches of Teriyaki and Rice. The teriyaki rice is labeled gluten free; ReadyWise says milk, soy and wheat are the common allergens in its foods. It notes that items may be substituted with similar ones.

Everything comes sealed in foil pouches inside a stackable bucket with a carry handle, about 11.75 by 9.75 by 12.5 inches and 11 lb.

The calorie math behind 60 servings

Sixty servings sounds like a month of meals, but the total is 12,720 calories, about 212 per serving. ReadyWise's own description, seven days at 1,800 calories a day, is the honest reading. At 2,000 calories a day it is a little over six days for one adult, or about a day and a half for a family of four.

Because each pouch makes six servings at once, it suits a household cooking a pot together better than a single person; once opened, the rest needs to be eaten or stored well.

Water and cooking: plan for a stove

ReadyWise says the bucket needs about 60 cups of water, roughly 3.75 gallons, and on average a cup per serving. Its FAQ says its foods can be made with hot or cold water and no stove, but its printed preparation card for these entrées says to pour each pouch into six cups of water (five for the macaroni), bring it to a boil and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. For pasta and rice dishes like these, plan to cook them.

That means a stove and fuel, used outdoors: Ready.gov says camp stoves and charcoal grills are for outdoor use only. The cooking water is on top of drinking water, which Ready.gov puts at a gallon per person per day. Our cooking without power guide covers safe ways to heat food.

Shelf life and storage

ReadyWise quotes a shelf life of up to 25 years, depending on storage conditions and product type, and recommends a cool, dry place at 50°F to 70°F, away from sunlight and humidity. It offers a taste promise to make things right if the food does not taste as good in 25 years, and accepts returns of unopened goods within 30 days. A closet or basement shelf suits it better than a hot garage. See our long-term food storage guide.

How it compares, and the verdict

On our emergency food comparison, the Emergency Essentials 1-Month Kit and Ready Hour 4-Week Supply store far more calories per bucket. Mountain House's pouches cook in the bag with no pan. ReadyWise's own 72-Hour Kit is the smaller starting point.

Verdict: a familiar, varied week of dinners for one adult, or a few days for a family, with a long shelf life. Skip it if you have no safe outdoor way to simmer food, little stored water, or expect 60 servings to last 60 meals.
