Practical stocking stuffers under $25
Small things that get used: a headlamp for the kitchen drawer, a night light that becomes a flashlight in an outage, a water filter for the glovebox, an emergency blanket for the car, cleats for an icy sidewalk, and a camp dinner that's actually good.
Every pick is a product we already compare, and each card says why it's here, with the maker page behind the claim in the sources at the end.
How we kept it under $25: each pick was listed under $25 on its maker's own US store when we checked on Nov 2, 2026 (a few showed as out of stock there that day). Prices change, and the store in each card may differ, so check the price before you buy.
Light for the drawer, the car and the hallway
A headlamp that takes AAA batteries is the most useful small gift there is: it lives in a drawer and comes out for every outage, flat tire and camping trip. A power failure light does the same job without anyone having to find it.
A water filter for the glovebox
A straw filter weighs almost nothing and fits in a glovebox or a backpack pocket. It's a backup, not a treatment plant: portable filters don't remove viruses.
- “Portable water filters do not remove all types of germs from water. Portable filters: Will not remove viruses.” (CDC)
Warmth and grip for winter
An emergency blanket or bivvy belongs in every car's winter kit, and slip-on cleats make an icy sidewalk or driveway walkable. All three fold up small enough for a stocking.
A camp dinner that's actually good
A freeze-dried dinner is a treat on a camping trip and a hot meal in an outage: add boiling water, wait, and eat from the pouch. They're also a gentle way to start someone's emergency food shelf.
Skip the food pouches for anyone with an allergy you're not sure about, and check the ingredients on the maker's page; they also need boiling water. Don't give a water filter as if it makes any water safe: CDC says portable filters don't remove viruses. And if someone already has a headlamp in every drawer, the power failure light is the better stuffer.
Common questions
How did you decide what's under $25?
From each maker's own US store price on Nov 2, 2026, never from Amazon. Prices change, so check the current price in the card or at the store before you buy.
