What to do now

  • Heat stroke is an emergency. The CDC lists a body temperature of 103°F or higher and says to call 911 right away.
  • Heat exhaustion signs include heavy sweating, cold, pale, clammy skin and a fast, weak pulse. Move to a cool place and sip water.
  • Do not rely on a fan as your primary cooling device. Above 90°F indoors, the CDC says a fan can increase body temperature.
  • Never leave people or pets in a closed car on a warm day. If your home has no air conditioning, find a cooling center.

Stay in a cool place, especially during the heat of the day and evening.”

Extreme Heat Warning

“An Extreme Heat Warning is issued when extremely dangerous heat conditions are expected or occurring. Avoid outdoor activities, especially during the heat of the day. If you must be outside, be sure to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade. Stay indoors in an air-conditioned space as much as possible, including overnight. Check on family and neighbors.”

Extreme Heat Watch

“An Extreme Heat Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for an extreme heat event but its occurrence and timing is still uncertain.
