EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max review

EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max Portable Power Station (2048Wh)

By PreparedStates editors

Our verdict · Researched
4.5 / 5

Over 2 kWh and 2,400 W for under the price of most 1.5 kWh units at EcoFlow's store price: enough for a fridge, a freezer and essentials through a long outage. At about 45 lb it's a carry, not a grab.

Our review

EcoFlow lists the DELTA 3 Max at 2,048 Wh with a 2,400 W AC rating, X-Boost to 3,400 W and a 20.3 kg (44.8 lb) LFP pack. This researched review covers what those figures mean in an outage, the limits in EcoFlow's manual, and when a lighter unit is the smarter choice.

What it is and who it suits

The DELTA 3 Max is EcoFlow's 2 kWh-class power station: 2,048 Wh of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, four AC outlets, USB-C and USB-A ports and a 12V outlet. EcoFlow estimates about 10 years of use from its own internal simulation data and lists a 5-year warranty, made up of 3 years standard plus 2 with app registration.

It suits households that plan for outages lasting days and want one battery with room to spare for a refrigerator, lights, phones and a router. This review is researched, not tested, and draws on EcoFlow's US product page and its user manual.

Output, X-Boost and the bypass catch

EcoFlow rates AC output at 2,400 W in total, up to 20 A per outlet, with a 4,800 W surge. X-Boost lets some devices rated up to 3,400 W run. The manual says it suits heating devices such as an electric blanket, water heater or heat pump, and does not support devices with voltage protection, such as precise instruments.

One catch matters for backup use. X-Boost is unavailable while the station passes grid power through in bypass mode, and the manual's bypass rating for the US version is 13 A total, which at 120V works out lower than the 2,400 W inverter rating. Check your heaviest load with the station running on battery. For switchover, EcoFlow lists a UPS time under 10 ms and says the station should draw more from the grid than it delivers, so the battery stays topped up.

Recharging, including ahead of a storm

EcoFlow quotes 0 to 80 percent in 68 minutes at 1,800 W input from a wall outlet or generator, measured in optimal conditions with X-Stream fast charging on. Solar input is capped at 500 W, and the manual asks that panels' combined open-circuit voltage stay within 60 V. Our solar panel comparison covers panels to pair with it.

Storm Guard Mode watches severe weather alerts and can start AC charging remotely. It needs to be activated in the EcoFlow app first, and the manual says the station then charges to 100 percent and will not discharge unless the grid fails. If you recharge from a portable generator, follow our generator safety guide: outdoors only, at least 20 feet from windows, doors and vents.

Weight, noise and settings to change

EcoFlow's US page gives the weight as 20.3 kg, 13 percent lighter than its previous 2 kWh unit, and its manual lists about 44.8 lb and 19.4 by 9.4 by 12.0 in. The manual warns against lifting it by one side handle, and EcoFlow lists a separate Detachable Wheels version. EcoFlow quotes 25 dB or less at a 600 W load. The manual lists an IP20 rating and says to keep the unit dry.

The AC output switches off by itself when idle, which an intermittent load such as a refrigerator can trigger. For a fridge, the manual says to set the AC timeout to never in the EcoFlow app and to check the battery level regularly. Charging is rated 32 to 113°F and discharging 14 to 113°F.

How it compares

At 2,048 Wh the DELTA 3 Max stores about twice what the Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 (1,070 Wh) or Anker SOLIX C1000 (1,056 Wh) do, and its 2,400 W rating is higher than their 1,500 W and 1,800 W. The trade-off is weight: 44.8 lb against 23.8 lb and 28.44 lb. The RIVER 2 Pro is EcoFlow's lighter option at 768 Wh and 18.2 lb. Our power station comparison sorts the rest.

Who should skip it

Skip it if you would carry it up stairs often or need something to grab on the way out, or if a smaller unit already covers your loads. EcoFlow's manual says the station is not intended for life-sustaining medical equipment, including hospital-grade CPAP machines, and to consult the maker of any other medical equipment first. It also warns that the electromagnetic fields power stations generate are likely to affect pacemakers and other implants. Read our guide to medical devices in a power outage before relying on any power station for medical gear.

For storage, the manual says to charge and discharge every 3 months, and that leaving the unit uncharged or unused for more than 6 months voids the warranty. Our power outage checklist covers the wider plan.

Questions

Can the DELTA 3 Max run a refrigerator?

EcoFlow's page lists refrigerators among the appliances X-Boost can support, and its manual advises setting the AC timeout to never for a fridge and checking the battery level. Compare your fridge's rated watts with the 2,400 W rating.

How fast does the DELTA 3 Max recharge?

EcoFlow quotes 0 to 80 percent in 68 minutes from a wall outlet or generator, measured in optimal conditions. Solar charging is slower, with 0 to 80 percent in 3.43 hours at the 500 W input limit.

Does the DELTA 3 Max work in cold weather?

EcoFlow rates charging from 32°F and discharging from 14°F, up to 113°F for both. Keep it indoors during a freeze.

How long will the battery last?

EcoFlow estimates about 10 years of use from internal simulation data, which it labels as reference only, and lists a 5-year warranty. In storage, the manual asks for a charge and discharge every 3 months.
